LOC & FPN President António José

On behalf of the 10th Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships Local Organising Committee, I am delighted to welcome you to Albufeira, Portugal and present to you the Competition Official Information Bulletin. We hope that this document provides you with all the important information to come and compete in one of the world’s best and most beautiful venue.

When in 2014 we were approached for, the very first time to include Para Swimming in the structure of the Portuguese Swimming Federation we could never ever dreamt of organising such major events in this discipline as we did until now. Their success have been recognized worldwide and today we are very proud that the Portuguese Swimming Federation is a reference in Para Swimming around the world.

For Albufeira 2022, we commit ourselves to aim higher than this and organise an event as amazing as possible.and so we hope all of you may come to share with us such joy in this event where competition will be at its highest level.

We are all looking forward to meet you in Albufeira in October!

António Silva President of the Portuguese Swimming Federation & Albufeira 2022 LOC

DSISO President (Interim) Lizzie Vogel

It gives me great pleasure to welcome everybody in Portugal – Albufeira, for the 10th DSISO World Championships 2022.

Since we last met at the 9th DSISO World Championships in Canada 2018, we faced many challenges. Amongst others, we’ve had to contend with the Corona Virus, which caused a lot of damage, not to our families and friends only, but also to our Organization.

I want to motivate our parents, coaches, supporters and retired swimmers to keep on developing swimmers and motivating them to achieve their dreams.  Let us help them to realise that the sky is the limit and through hard work they CAN achieve their dreams.

A big thank you to our Local Organising Committee that worked so hard to be able to host this event.  Thank you to the community and our sponsors. We look forward to a wonderful week and we know our swimmers are going to enjoy themselves.

I wish to congratulate our swimmers that are representing their country!  You can be proud of yourselves and I wish you all well for the championships ahead.

Let us participate in good Sportsmanship and all glory to God!!!

Mayor of Albufeira José Carlos Rolo

It is an honour and a challenge for us to host and collaborate in organising such an important event for the second time, which confirms that the Municipal Swimming
Pools continue to meet all the requirements imposed on championships of this nature and importance and that Albufeira is an inclusive city, which bets on a policy of integration of citizens with disabilities. This application resulted from a concerted work between several entities and now it is time to continue this partnership so that we can repeat or raise the success of 2008.

I also want to leave a word of appreciation for the effort, work and persistence of these athletes and their families in overcoming all difficulties, both in their daily lives and in sports events.

Deputy Mayor of Albufeira, responsible for the Sports Department Cristiano Cabrita

It was with great pride that we hosted in 2008, for the first time in Portugal, the World Swimming Championships – Down Syndrome. It is, therefore, with redoubled commitment that we will again host another edition of this extraordinary event made by exceptional people. We o!er to all who visit us the best that we have as a tourism capital and a sports capital. Our municipal pools are the mirror of the commitment that the Municipality has had in the valorisation of top-level sports equipment and sports practice, in this specific case of swimming. This event shows a clear sign of the hard work and persistence of all these athletes and the organisation, which deserve our respect and full support.

With this commitment we want to continue to promote our county in the international circuits of leisure and sport tourism.
